Festival de courts métrages des pays méditerranéens, organisée par le Cercle du film « Images » de la ville de Sant’Antioco, au sud-ouest de la Sardaigne, qui accueille l’événement depuis sa première édition. Le festival est impliqué dans la diffusion de la culture méditerranéenne à travers le cinéma.

L’édition 2011 comporte une section spéciale dédiée à la tourmente politique qui affectent certains pays d’Afrique du Nord et du Moyen-Orient. Avec entre autres le réalisateur tunisien Nouri Bouzid et de jeunes cinéastes en Syriensdu collectif  Abounaddara t régulièrement diffusées sur le web, chaque vendredi, une journée de prière et de protestation. L’invité d’honneur cette année est la Turquie, un pays de  réelle  médiation entre culture religieuse et laïque où plusieurs contradictions existent encore

La recherche et la sélection de courts métrages est maintenu par le Cercle du film « Images » ont collaboré ECAM (Ecole de Cinéma Audiovisuel y de la Comunidad de Madrid), la Cinémathèque de bain Kimuak, le FEMISE (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Métiers del’image et du son de Paris), le département Film et Télévision de l’Université de Tel-Aviv, l’Ecole des Arts et du Cinéma à Tunis, IESAV (Institut d’Etudes scéniques, et Cinématographiques Audiovisuelles) à Beyrouth, le Centre Expérimental de Cinématographie de Rome, le Festival du Film d’Environnement CinemAmbiente à Turin, l’Institut régional d’ethnographie de Nuoro.

Narrative/Documentary 69 min

These talented artists address, in both thematically and stylistically distinct ways, the manner in which images evoke memory. This is achieved through the use of text, the presence of previously filmed « found » footage, a scenic train ride bleeding into digital pixels, single frame printing devices, evocations of 9/11, a tribute to a deceased filmmaker, peripheral vision, recall of sleep via animation, seascape imagery folding back on itself in time, and bittersweet remembrances of now-extinct Kodachrome film stock.

La compétition offre une vitrine à  la création vidéo contemporaine. Elle présente un panorama à  travers une sélection de vidéos originales et créatives, très souvent produites de manière indépendante. À l’invitation de Traverse Vidéo, le Collectif Jeune Cinéma a retenu neuf courts-métrages récents, panorama témoignant de la diversité des approches filmiques défendues aujourd’hui par la coopérative. Propositions singulières, parfois en désaccord, qui ‟ valent la peine ” d’être vues en salle (occasion si rare) et discutées ensemble, chacun de ces films interroge les notions de ‟ corps ” et de ‟ présence ”. Battu, mis à  l’écart, le corps filmé par Laurence REBOUILLON dans Écart évoque le corps filmant et invisible, présent et absent, du cinéaste. Dans L’écume des choses de Maurice LEMAITRE, On était là  de Rodolphe OLCESE, Back to London de Cécile RAVEL, J. de Solomon NAGLER et Alexandre LAROSE, Face of an Angel d’Anthea KENNEDY et Ian WIBLIN, les corps se dégradent, s’effacent, se souviennent, se retrouvent, se jouent de nous et des dispositifs qui cherchent à  les saisir, à  les contraindre. Et c’est la caméra qui prend corps dans Broken Windows de Richard O’SULLIVAN, dont les images sont générées par un appareil en fin de vie. Jusqu’aux paysages fait de nombres de Notturno et du Passage, composés et ‟ dépliés ” grâce à  l’ordinateur, à  l’intérieur desquels Jacques PERCONTE et Mauro SANTINI cherchent à  nous inscrire.

Pour cette 11ème édition, le Festival des Cinémas Différents de Paris présente 109 oeuvres en provenance de 18 pays, réparties sur onze programmes internationaux, élaborés à  partir de 500 films reçus autour de deux thématiques.

La première interroge les textures argentiques au regard des matières numériques. Le cinéma expérimental a souvent utilisé la structure des matières qui le compose comme sujet ou comme idée directrice de ses projets. Il en est de même pour l’art vidéo, souvent consacré à  une recherche formelle, sur ses propres structures. Les cinéastes et vidéastes expérimentaux disposent de nos jours d’un vaste champ de possibilités et peuvent créer leurs images en bénéficiant de l’évolution et de la diversité des supports, de l’argentique à  l’électronique, de l’analogique au numérique, du cinéma aux nouveaux média. Notre objectif est ici de rendre compte d’une manière de faire, d’une manière de voir, en présentant les images d’artistes qui mettent à  profit la diversité des média et/ou leur hybridation. La thématique se retrouve au coeur de trois séances ayant pour fils conducteurs les Expériences Paranormales, les Abstractions et le Found Footage. Elle sera également présente dans les trajectoires consacrées à  l’allemande Christina von Greve et à  l’autrichien Siegfried Fruhauf ainsi que la séance monographique consacrée à  la cinéaste argentine Narcisa Hirsch et dans les différentes performances d’ouverture (Pays sans nom) et de clôture (Ornamental Films) et les installations (Marie Sochor, Silvi Simon et Neil Ira Needleman) du festival.

Le deuxième axe thématique nous emmène en Amérique Latine, du Mexique jusqu’au cône sud. Cette programmation ose faire fi des frontières administratives pour montrer que les idées véhiculées par les images en mouvement circulent sans tenir compte des clichés et instaurer une rencontre interculturelle entre cinéastes et spectateurs. Les artistes, cinéastes ou vidéastes représentés cherchent à  révéler la face cachée du cinéma latino-américain, loin des dictats politiques et sociaux de leurs pays d’origine, comme en témoignent trois séances thématiques : Incantations du Réalisme Magique, Chronique d’une émergence annoncée… et Kaléidoscope Argentine ainsi que l’hommage rendu par le festival à  Raymonde Carasco avec la projection de Ciguri – Tarahumaras 99 – Le dernier Chaman.

Le festival propose par ailleurs le vendredi 11 décembre une carte blanche aux artistes Silvia Maglioni et Graeme Thomson, intitulée ‟ Au-delà  de l’image-temps ”, partie prenante de leur exposition Blown up ! à  Mains d’Å’uvres. Un workshop et deux films sélectionnés par leurs soins seront proposés, aux côtés leur propre film intitulé Facs of Life.

The Jihlava festival is annually accompanied by the biggest section for film industry in Eastern Europe: The Institute of Documentary Film organizes the East European Forum, the meeting of East European documentarists with producers from big European televisions. Further on we cooperate on the organization of East Silver, the market for documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe. The Doc-Air online portal is an all-year festival where you can download a large number of your favorite films.

During the 12 years of its existence, the festival of creative documentary film has become the greatest event of its kind in Central Europe. It is legendary for its informal atmosphere, discussion character, systematic support of documentaries as well as publishing activities. The result of these (and more) can be found in our shop. « Collaborative exquisite corpse feature length video project »

Exhibition in the form of a feature length video project premiering as part of a seminar on American Art in Paris, France.

The Passage Film Festival 2009 is an international collaboration between filmmakers and video artists from the United States, France and Canada.

Because we wanted the Passage Film Festival 2009 to be an original collaborative manifestation, Jeff Stanley and I worked from the start with the help of Jonathan Regier (American poet residing in Paris) on a global (not dictatorial) narrative structure divided into three acts to host the videos: I The Falling Asleep, II The Visions, III The Waking Up. Each act contains five different quotes, which point toward a certain atmosphere or state of spirit. Each artist invited to the festival has been given one of these quotes, without knowing the other quotes and participants, and has been asked to create a new video inspired by it. Therefore, all the commissioned videos will premiere with the Passage Film Festival 2009, during which all the quotes and participants will be revealed for the first time. The first screening of the Passage Film Festival 2009 will take place on June 24th at the National Institute of History of Art (INHA) in Paris, as the closing event of a colloquium about American Art (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University). A second screening will occur later in the year in Austin, Texas.

Festival aujourd’hui mythique, EXPRMNTL fut l’une des plus grandes manifestations jamais consacrées au cinéma expérimental et d’avant-garde. Organisé par la Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique, mis sur pieds par l’infatigable Jacques Ledoux, cette manifestation qui connu cinq éditions (1949 î 1958 î 1963 î 1967 et 1973) fut d’emblée placée sous le signe de la découverte, de l’invention, de la liberté et de la contestation. Plus qu’un festival, EXPRMNTL représenta une véritable expérience, un événement total. Formidable vitrine pour l’ensemble de la création contemporaine, il fut aussi un lieu de réflexion et de contestation sociopolitique où des cinéastes aujourd’hui reconnus (Martin Scorsese, Roman Polanski, Agnès Varda) firent leurs premières armes.

Pauillac Margaux sera présenté par Damien Marguet le 19 dans une séance qui rassemble les plus beaux films déposés au collectif Jeune cinéma ces deux dernières années.  

Exprmntl 21 se tiendra à  Liège – Cinéma Sauvenière – du 18 au 20 mars 2009.
Ce festival  propose pendant trois soirs, des projections rétrospectives des films primés dans le cadre de EXPRMNTL ainsi que des programmes consacrés à  la création contemporaine dans le domaine du cinéma expérimental et de la vidéo numérique.

Chaque année le festival du Film de Rotterdam invite quelques distributeurs à  présenter un film de leur choix. Cette année, le collectif Jeune Cinéma a retenu Pauillac, Margaux, ma dernière production. Le film sera présenté par Violeta Salvatierra.

Le festival de film international Rotterdam offre un choix de qualité de cinéma indépendant, innovateur, expérimental mondial mais aussi une série d’expositions d’arts visuels filmiques. Consacré pour soutenir activement le cinéma indépendant de autour du globe, IFFR est le hub essentiel en Hollande pour découvrir les talents, pour les premières contagieuses, et pour explorer les concours, les sections principales des longs-métrages récents, les courts-métrages et les documentaires, les expositions d’arts visuels…

The 2008 event – an attempt to bring both local, national, and international filmmakers together to exhibit their work free and bring together a world community of artists. Karen a beaucoup voyagé. Il y a quatre ans elle s’est fixée à  Dakar. Cela faisait un an et demi que je ne l’avais pas vue. Elle est venue à  Paris la semaine dernière et nous nous sommes retrouvés ce dimanche. Elle m’a invité à  la rejoindre à  la Ménagerie de verre pour l’accompagner dans une performance sonore. Je suis arrivé juste, elle avait commencé, nous nous sommes embrassés, j’ai installé mon matériel et nous avons joué.  Nous avons croisé nos univers à  tâtons, c’était une belle retrouvaille, très simple, amusante…  Le set sera bientôt en ligne…

La vidéo est en train de se faire une place dans le cinéma. Mais quand on observe ce qui se passe, on se rend compte quelle essaie de s’intégrer et non pas de se positionner en tant que telle. Bien sur il y a eu des tentatives et certaines sont très réussies, mais il semblerait que cela n’importe pas. La vidéo haute définition bien sur va peu à  peu devenir une nouvelle technique cinématographique qui ne veut rien révolutionner sinon l’économie d’une certaine façon. Il serait très dommage que cela ne soit qu’une passade et qu’un effet de mode à  la blairwitch. La vidéo n’est pas un ovni, c’est un réel moyen de prolonger l’histoire du cinéma vivant. Il est temps d’essayer d’aller ailleurs, vers des espaces qui soient actuels et non plus en perpétuel état de restauration. Pourquoi le cinéma resterait le même si ses outils changent, et surtout si ces changements entraînent une modification fondamentale du regard et de l’objet… Faut-il encore pousser la culture de la distanciation et pourquoi le faire avec des outils qui tendent à  l’éliminer ?

Il n’est pas question de détruire ni de refuser en bloc ce qui a été fait, mais de ne plus penser une pratique de la cinématographie comme culturellement et linguistiquement figée. La vidéo a aussi une culture et certainement elle est plus accessible que celle du cinéma et même sa pratique amateuriste, plagiste ou quoi que se soit est très répandue, de ce fait ces images que l’on capture – parce que même s’il y a une fabrication elle n’est que partielle) – sont très proches de tout le monde, qui ou quoi que l’on filme se pose dans un rapport à  le réalité ancré dans une relation intime – c’est tout près -, tout dans la vidéo est intime. On ne sacre plus les images et même si elles essayent de s’éloigner, elles seront toujours très proches. Works were accepted from 150 artists and 12 visiting artists who were funded to travel from Europe and Australia to give over 20 workshops to some 150 attendees.  Most of the exhibits  were accessable via the local network and the Internet.

Over 4000 visitors attended the Festival and the Festival’s website attracted over 100,000 visits worldwide.

The Festival was organized by ICECA (Thailand), MBC (Germany), Audiovisions (Austria). Funding was provided by several European and local institutions.

Actions Réseaux Numériques est une structure dont l’activité est orientée réseau, son accès est ouvert à  tout public et son champ d’investigation est défini par les pratiques artistiques spécifiques au net.

La manifestation se construit sur l’élaboration d’un dispositif ‘on/off line’ basé sur des échanges entre espace localisé et réseau global.

Le dispositif permet au public de s’impliquer dans les différents projets et rendez-vous de la programmation, axée sur la circulation des données entre ces espaces de natures différentes. C’est dans ce contexte d’échanges, générateur de formes et de contenus, que la notion de « présence » est posée comme mot-clef dans un système de construction à  la fois collectif et individuel : présence(s) en tant que forme(s) possible(s) sur le net.

La programmation x-00 est organisée autour de la rencontre des différentes formes de présences perceptibles sur les réseaux, comme autant de comportements spécifiques à  un environnement.
